  Benny Kwong

Professionally trained as an architect, Mr. Kwong has worked in the field of affordable housing for over 15 years. Mr. Kwong has developed eleven projects totaling over 628 units of housing in the Bay Area. He is experienced in rehabilitation, planned-unit developments, for-sale transactions, tax credit and tax-exempt bonds, and HUD financing. 

Mr. Kwong has led the subdivision and entitlement process of the 71-unit single-family homes development at a Housing Authority land disposition site in West Oakland.  Since joining EAH in June 2003, Mr. Kwong obtained all financing and entitlements; and started construction on the 112-unit affordable housing development at the Dublin Transit Center Site.  He also assembled and obtained unit allotments for a four-acre, 80-unit condo development in Morgan Hill.

Immediately prior to joining EAH, Mr. Kwong was a Senior Project Manager for Affordable Housing Associates in Berkeley.  He was hired by AHA as a project manager in 1999 to work on Adeline Lofts, a tax credit funded live-work rental for local artists and artisans in Oakland.  At AHA Mr. Kwong also completed the final closing of a HUD 202 project, purchased an occupied apartment in Berkeley, closed construction financing on a two-phase occupied housing rehabilitation, and purchased three infill lots in Downtown Oakland.

Mr. Kwong holds a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo, where he completed his final year of study in housing and adaptive re-use of campus housing.

From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Kwong worked for Oakland Community Housing, Inc., where he completed his internship co-sponsored by Non-Profit Housing of Northern California and was promoted to Project Manager Position in 1998.  Prior to his leaving at OCHI, Mr. Kwong has brought three for-sale developments to construction.
