Steve Lucas joined EAH Housing in February of 2008 as Vice President of Property Acquisitions, bringing ten years of acquisition, planning and development experience from the corporate, publically-traded, homebuilder sector. He is responsible for leveraging his developer, broker, and public sector contacts to source and acquire suitable land for new senior and multifamily developments, as well as existing buildings for rehabilitation, throughout California.Prior to joining EAH, Mr. Lucas was the Regional Vice President of Land Acquisitions for MDC Holdings in northern California (Richmond American Homes), the ninth largest builder/developer in the country. He was responsible for developing and managing a staff of ten acquisitions and planning professionals in MDC’s Bay Area, Sacramento and Fresno offices, with an annual budget of $200 million for purchasing developable land. Mr. Lucas managed all due diligence and feasibility matters, deployment of acquisition and planning consultants, entitlements, project budgets, financial models, corporate land purchase reports, and escrow closings. Mr. Lucas was also one of four people selected to lead a MDC’s nationwide land acquisition trainee program, designed to teach due diligence procedures and financial pro forma analysis to new employees prior to their assignment in various division offices.
Prior to MDC Holdings, Mr. Lucas served as a Planning Director at Brookfield Homes and an Acquisition Manager at KB Homes. And prior to entering the real estate development business, Steve was a Division Manager and Associate Partner for Hallenbeck & Associates, a geotechnical and environmental engineering consulting firm with clients in both the real estate development sector and in government public works.
Mr. Lucas’ educational history includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Davis, followed by Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science degrees in Earth Sciences, from U.C. Santa Cruz. He has also completed that majority of course work available in the California Real Estate Certificate Program at San Francisco City College, and is a licensed Certified Engineering Geologist, Registered Geologist, and Certified Hydro-geologist in the State of California.
